get up off your tushi!

"Get up off your tushi!" That's what I had to tell myself this morning. Lil Jed woke up earlier than normal (which is early to begin with) and so all I wanted to do was sleep on the couch while he played around me in the living room... but then----

I realized that if I continued to lay there on the couch, I probably wouldn't get up for a verrrry looong time. So I said "Madeline, Get up off your tushi!!" And it worked! I got up off the couch and started being very productive with my time.   And look, I'm posting this only at 10:46AM and these are the things that I've been able to get done today:

While lil Jed was in independent play time (I'll post more on this subject later) I finished all my homework due this week.  I feel so blessed to know that I've been able to stay on top of all my school work so far this semester. It's a real challenge to continue to go to school with children!

A pic of lil Jed in playtime. I love this sweet face!

AND!! The first thing I did when I got off my "tushi" was bake some whole wheat bread. I don't have a mixer, nor do I have a bread maker thingamajig--- so I consider myself lucky when even one of my mini-loaves turn out super delicious. And yes, at least one of them did, I'm taste-testing it right now in fact.

That's a goal of mine from now on-  stop buying canned beans (dry beans are sOo much cheaper)
And start making more bread!

Exciting Weekend!

This is a fun card I recently sent out to Grandparents and Great Grandparents (and even Great GREAT Grandparents!!)

There are only 3 more days until Halloween. I hope that everyone has fun and enjoys the holiday.

Some exciting news is that on Saturday, my sister is getting married!  Congratulations Heidi, you will be a beautiful bride! I can't wait to hear all about the wedding.

Pumpkin Cookies

You have to do this for yourself. Pumpkin cookies always cheer me up after a long day.
Ours turned out soOo scrumdoodliumptious.

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 cup canned pumpkin puree
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups confectioners' sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves, and salt; set aside.
In a medium bowl, cream together the 1/2 cup of butter and white sugar. Add pumpkin, egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla to butter mixture, and beat until creamy. Mix in dry ingredients. Drop on cookie sheet by tablespoonfuls; flatten slightly.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven. Cool cookies, then drizzle glaze with fork.
To Make Glaze: Combine confectioners' sugar, milk, 1 tablespoon melted butter, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Add milk as needed, to achieve drizzling consistency.

scenes from a nature park

Yesterday we went walking around the Nature Park here in town.  I love seeing all the fall colors in the trees and grass.  The leaves just pop against the cloudy sky.  There were geese and ducks like always.

It's a show down.

The ducks were nice, however the geese were very honery.

a pose

Our second baby boy will be born in late December. That's coming up soon! It's already the middle of October. Okay! I'm definitely getting nervous.  However, I can do it! I have faith in myself (and in my hubby to rub my feet after a long day)
Here is a simple prego pose for you!
29 weeks and 2 days

I agree with the other women that say the third trimester is one of the more difficult ones. I forgot how much this belly gets in the way of things.
Some examples:

I can't reach the cereal on the top shelf.
I can't see my toes while I'm standing up.
I can't bend over to tie my shoes.
Shaving my legs requires me to hold my breath. (This one makes me laugh)

However!!!  I'm soooo excited about this new life inside me.  Once he is born, it will be hard to imagine our family without him.

Happy Birthday!

Last Thursday we celebrated Little Jed's First Birthday!  He had a sweet little baby cake that he loved! At first he just would put his fingers in the frosting and lick his fingers... but then he got really messy!

See what I mean?

I'm so happy that he's a happy and healthy little boy!   We couldn't ask for more.

"Our Little Pumpkin"

One of my sweet friends reminded me of the little pumpkin that sat outside our door last October with a blue ribbon around it saying "Our Little Pumpkin." The pumpkin was waiting on our doorstep when we came home from the hospital with Little Jed Jr.- he was only two days old then!  Now he is a year and a day!  Time flies by too fast.
Well now you'll see that this year he is quite literally our little pumpkin!  We dressed him up and took him to the pumpkin patch.  I want to always remember this Fall... the season that we celebrated Little Jed's first birthday and anticipated the newest arrival coming in just 83 days...

Aunt Elle with Lil Jed

Shelly Duke says about this picture:  "You just can't show happy as great as baby Jed does."

If you notice... in a lot of these pictures the little guy is holding the same baby pumpkin... he just wouldn't let it go! And when we did try to take it away from him- he would cry so much!

excerpts from a baby calendar

Little Jed's birthday is coming up in just 5 days!  Where has this first year gone?  I'm so excited to see him be a happy, healthy, and growing baby.

Months before Little Jed was born, we received a baby's first year calendar as a gift.  I was so happy to have a great way to record our first child's development month by month. It even has stickers that say things like first bath, first smile, and finds toes
